The program is designed to enhance students’ abilities in planning, organizing, delegating, supervising, and leading through a variety of activities, procedures, and experiences, some of which are campus-based and some field-based. Students completing the program may also qualify for the Texas Standard Principal Certificate after passing the TExES exam.
Students in this program are well-prepared to be candidates for administrative positions. Students regularly apply skills and knowledge gained in courses to their school setting, and benefit from former and current educational administrators as professors and adjunct professors. Students also have the opportunity to conduct research independently and in conjunction with Houston Baptist University faculty, to present papers at conferences, to publish, and to interact with practicing administrators representing a wide spectrum of approaches and philosophies. We also offer this program completely online.
I was so blessed to be a part of HBU’s Educational Administration program. The small class sizes allowed me to establish a genuine, professional relationship with my professors who cared about my academic success. This program has fully prepared me in reaching my goals as an administrator.
~Tiffany White, 2016 Graduate
Courses are offered at times convenient for full-time teachers. All EDAD courses are offered in a hybrid/online format. Students will be meeting at HBU to interact with professors who have leadership experience in public and private schools; however, some of the course learning activities have been moved online, making it possible to utilize a hybrid format. Classes will typically meet face-to-face one week, and then online the next.
Online courses are offered in eight-week cycles. You can complete many of our degree programs at your own pace. Students will complete weekly assignments, readings, discussions, and occasional group work, as well as exams and other activities designed to enhance learning outcomes, all at times that are most convenient to them. Note: Online students will be required to come to the HBU campus for AEL and T-TESS training. The Texas Education Agency does not allow any university to offer these trainings online.
Students enrolling in our courses through the district cohort program take their classes together. It is an approach which encourages learning and discussion focused on their school district and the unique opportunities, challenges, and dynamics affecting their workplace. Courses are offered at times convenient for full-time teachers, and can be scheduled to meet the needs of other school system personnel. They will be offered in a face-to-face and online hybrid format. Cohort program partnerships are established between HBU and specific school districts; participating students enroll individually.
