Dr. Stan Napper
Dean of the College of Science and Engineering and Professor of Engineering
Dr. Stan Napper was recruited to be the founding dean of the College of Engineering; he began serving HBU in the fall of 2017. In 2019, his role transitioned to dean of the College of Science and Engineering. Dr. Napper has been instrumental in coordinating support for HBU’s programs through the Science and Engineering Advisory Board, and in many avenues throughout the region and beyond. His work has elevated the visibility of HBU and the programs under his purview. Dr. Napper has helped secure significant donations to the College, enabling more students to earn their degrees. His leadership has been instrumental in growing the programs and in securing learning space and equipment.
Prior to joining HBU, Dr. Napper was on the faculty of Louisiana Tech University for 33 years. There, Dr. Napper was a professor of Biomedical Engineering, and served as vice president for Research and Development after having served nine years as the dean of the College of Engineering and Science. Napper was active in teaching, research, administration, student organizations, and various professional organizations. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. During the time Dr. Napper was dean of the College of Engineering and Science at Louisiana Tech University, he and the faculty there proposed and created a new BS in Nanosystems Engineering, and a new BS in Cyber Engineering, as well as a number of other graduate-level degrees, certificate programs, and research centers, including the Center for Secure Cyberspace, and a designation as a NSA Center of Academic Excellence for Cyber Defense (formerly known as Information Assurance) in both Education and Research. Dr. Napper served two terms as a member of the Board of Directors of ABET (2009-2013). He received both his BS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University.
