Michael Roque Collins served as a Visiting Professor of Art in 1998 and now holds the rank of Senior Artist in Residence-Painting and is Professor of Art. In addition, he is the Senior Director of the department of Studio Visual Arts. He earned a BFA in Art from the University of Houston and was a Meadows Fellow and Teaching Assistant during his MFA period of study in Studio Art from Southern Methodist University. His teaching focus is on introducing college students to the field of art and to social and creative thinking within a Christian context. In addition, he is dedicated to the further advancement of HCU art majors and to advanced graduate study in studio art. Collins has accomplished 55 solo exhibitions and he has been awarded over 50 awards in regional and national and international juried competitions including three Houston Cultural Arts Council Grants for excellence in painting. He has also won a prestigious MAAA-NEA grant award for excellence in painting and works on paper. His painting was also awarded recently in the UNESCO Bio-Ethics art competition which, featured artists from 23 countries where Collins was one of eleven top prize winners. Collins art may also be seen in the permanent collections of eighteen museums around the country including The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The San Antonio Museum of Fine Art, The El Paso Museum Of Art and Art, the Lowe Museum of Fine Art, Miami, Florida and the Ogden Museum Of Southern Art in New Orleans, Louisiana.
