Sherry and Jim Smith

Sherry and Jim Smith have been active supporters of HCU. This generous service to HCU carries on the tradition of Jim Smith’s father, Orrien Smith, who was the first chair of the University’s President’s Council in 1964.

Jim Smith has made his career in Houston in real estate development and formed Jim R. Smith & Co., a retail development organization that owns large retail centers.  Smith served as a member of the University Board of Trustees from 1990 to 1999 and has served since in an advisory role to the Board in the development of University projects.

The Smith’s generous commitment to fund a concert pipe organ for the Belin Chapel continues their remarkable legacy to HCU.  This instrument serves as a magnificent addition to the Morris Cultural Arts Center, enhancing worship and music performance, and bringing beauty, joy and celebration to the entire HCU campus.

The Smiths have three children: Jim Jr., Tracey MAP ’09, and Kathy Dupuy.  They are members of Second Baptist Church.
