Honors College Orientation

Who Is Orientation For?

Honors College Orientation is required for all incoming Honors Scholars. Fall 2023 orientation will take place on campus at Houston Christian University from Wednesday, August 23 to Friday, August 25. Students living on campus will be given the opportunity to move into their dorm rooms early on August 23 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Students who will commute during the semester will need to commute to orientation as on-campus housing for orientation will not be available.

What Can I Expect from Orientation?

Students will receive information that is essential to their success within the Honors College as well as within their other courses at HCU. Among the scheduled activities are opportunities for students to speak with Honors College alumni, participate in classroom discussions, meet their Honors College mentor, and engage in community building activities.

What Is the Schedule Like?

The orientation begins in the afternoon of August 23, continues all day on August 24, and concludes with breakfast on August 25. Students can expect to hear from Honors College faculty, meet with their Honors College mentor, participate in mock discussion seminars, share meals with one another, learn about the Honors College traditions, and engage in team-building activities with their peers. Following the Honors College orientation, students will then participate in HCU’s Welcome Days. A detailed schedule of events is available on the RSVP form which was distributed to incoming students via email.

What Should I Pack?

Students who are moving into their housing assignments are encouraged to follow HCU Residence Life’s packing list. Commuter students should come prepared with a light backpack to hold their orientation materials, a water bottle, note taking materials, and any personal necessities.
