Advising and Student Persistence

Student Success Specialists are all about the student’s success!

Success Specialists help students effectively identify and take advantage of campus resources to help them persist throughout their college career and reach graduation. Success Specialists advocate for student involvement in the HBU community as well as assist students with the development of personal and professional goals. While Success Specialists help to hold students accountable for their academic journey, they labor to aid students in establishing healthy practices that will develop a sense of self-efficacy within their newfound autonomy. Success Specialists are assigned by school or college.

Student Success Specialists
Advocate, Support, Connect

  • We advocate for students and empower students to advocate for themselves
  • We provide holistic support through 1:1 coaching and by serving as a first-year academic advisor for select majors
  • We connect students with campus resources such as Career & Calling, Academic Success Center, or Financial Aid

Students can connect with their success specialists via Navigate.  We encourage all students to meet their success specialists at least two times per semester.
