Pre-Optometry Professional Society (HCU POPS)

HCU Pre-Optometry Professional Society (POPS ) is an organization dedicated to students who are interested in the field of optometry, ophthalmology and careers pertaining to vision. Members work to inform others about these careers, and also provide volunteer hours to various vision health groups.

Our club invites guest speakers who facilitate understanding about vision health and the careers centered around it. We invite optometrists and ophthalmologists who discuss the current trends and new advances in technology, care and regulations. Representatives from optometry schools visit to discuss the application process to their respective institutions. We are especially grateful to our optometry HCU alumni who dedicate their time to speak about their experiences in optometry school and in their practices.

Some of our members attend the Texas Optometric Association convention each year to meet with the state’s optometrists and participate in the student day events; our delegates often win awards.

POPS also serves by participating in walks, health fairs and other community service events. We collaborate with area volunteer organizations to provide vision screenings around the city to those in need.

POPS collaborates with the AED (national organization for pre-med students) for social events, as well as hosts a banquet each year.
