Grace Hopper Scholarship for STEM Students

US Navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper was a pioneer of computer programming who was passionate about sharing science and technology advancements with college students. The Hopper Scholarships are intended to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers and produce more technical talent who will bring forth the innovations of tomorrow.

2024-2025 Award Year

Beginning in fall 2024 thanks to the support of a generous donor, new HCU freshman engineering students with a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale, unweighted) GPA or better qualify for the Grace Hopper Scholarship that pays up to full tuition* at Houston Christian University.  This award is for qualified students who are majoring in:

  • Computer Science
  • Cyber Engineering
  • Cybersecurity
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Information Systems
  • Mathematics

Transfer students are also eligible for this full tuition Hopper Scholarship. Those with a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale, unweighted) or better are eligible to receive full tuition. Transfer students with less than 15 college credit hours (taken after graduation from high school) are evaluated as a freshmen based on their high school GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Applicants who have selected these majors will automatically be considered for the Hopper Scholarship as part of the admissions process.

* This scholarship closes the gap of tuition owed once grants and merit scholarships are applied. In other words, the Hopper is meant to cover the balance of tuition costs after merit and other need-based aid is awarded. To receive this award, students must be eligible to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students are required to submit their FAFSA. Once in the program, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher and cannot change their major (except to one of the six listed above). Post-baccalaureate students are not eligible.
