Take a class with Dr. Michael Ward

Come study the theology of Narnia with leading C. S. Lewis scholar and HBU professor Dr. Michael Ward at Second Baptist Church, March 23rd-27th.

Dr. Michael Ward a Professor of Apologetics at Houston Baptist University and is a Senior Research Fellow at Blackfriars Hall, University of Oxford. He is the author of the award-winning Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis (Oxford University Press) and co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis (Cambridge University Press).

C.S. Lewis’s seven Chronicles of Narnia continue to be some of the most popular and widely read books in the world. Lewis once said “the whole Narnia series is about Christ” and in this course we will see what he meant by that remark. We will examine the Biblical parallels within the stories and, in particular, look at how the seven tales are shaped out of the imagery of the seven heavens, which Lewis described as “spiritual symbols of permanent value”. As the psalmist said, “The heavens are telling the glory of God” and Narnia becomes even more intriguing when understood in the light of Lewis’s lifelong fascination with Christian cosmology. Based on Michael Ward’s best-selling and award-winning book, Planet Narnia, this course will be an eye-opening inquiry into the theological imagination of the 20th century’s greatest Christian apologist.
