Houston Civic Symphony Concert

April 26 @ 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Houston Civic Symphony’s first concert of the season begin with the William Tell Overture by themaster Italian composer of opera, Gioacchino Rossini. It opens with a very
expressive cello choir before moving to very famous music akin to a storm
scene. After that is a famous tune played by the English Horn before getting to
the most famous part of the overture. That is the part that was used with great
success in the television show as the theme for
The Lone Ranger.

Next will be the
Symphony no.
25 in G minor, K. 183
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. One of 2 Mozart
symphonies written in G minor, this one is referred to as the “
Little G Minor”. It is only
little in comparison to his other G minor symphony, No. 40. It is a highly
energetic piece that will delight individuals on many accounts. Mozart composed the symphony when he was only 17 years old!

The concert will close with
Pictures
at An Exhibition
by Russian composer Modeste Mussorgsky. Mussorgsky
composed Pictures in 1874 due to inspiration by and in honor of his friend,
Russian painter Viktor Hartmann, who had died a year earlier. Mussorgsky wrote
the work as a piano solo. While that version is still performed, it is in this
orchestra version that was orchestrated by Maurice Ravel that Mussorgsky’s work
is undoubtedly best known. Ravel’s brilliant orchestration of Mussorgsky’s
creative, expressive, and powerful music will keep guests riveted with interest.

The concert will be a great kickoff to  a great season of
music by the Houston Civic Symphony.
