The signing of a replica of the Centennial Bell marked a construction milestone for The Morris Family Center for Law & Liberty, a five-building complex that includes a main building modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia. HBU President Robert Sloan joined Houston Baptist University Founding Father Dr. Stewart Morris, Sr. and family members, a representative of The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation, HBU Board of Trustees, special guests, faculty and staff for a signing ceremony on Wednesday, June 1 to celebrate the final phase of construction on the main building.
Dr. Christopher Hammons, Director of the Morris Family Center for Law & Liberty, shared highlights of the journey that inspired the building’s construction and expressed appreciation to the Morris family for making the complex a reality. “The building stands as an outward and visible sign of our commitment as a University to teach our nation’s founding principles and the Morris family’s generosity and shared vision have made that possible today,” said Dr. Hammons.
Dr. Sloan offered a prayer of dedication during the ceremony which included expressions of thanks to The Joella and Stewart Morris Foundation for the generous donations that enabled the project to come to fruition as well as the McNair Foundation and other donors. At the close of the ceremony, guests and attendees were invited to sign the replica of the Centennial Bell to mark the occasion.
The Morris Family Center for Law & Liberty is slated to open in mid-September.
