Two Houston Baptist University (HBU) staff members have been named 2021-2022 Mayfield Award honorees. The award was named to honor Dr. Ray V. Mayfield, Sr. and, his son, Dr. Ray V. Mayfield, Jr. who both served the University in a diverse number of ways.
Each spring, this award recognizes one male and one female staff member with outstanding job performance and service to the University and the community.
The 2021-2022 Ray Mayfield Awards honorees are Celeste Risteski and Gary Dyke.
Celeste Risteski, an administrative coordinator for HBU’s School of Christian Thought, was selected as the female honoree for this year’s Mayfield Awards. She was nominated for her good cheer, attitude of service and quiet competence. She was described as a staff member who has made the School of Christian Thought an excellent place to learn and work, always remains positive and helpful and has begun to lead and help others on the administrative staff. Celeste is a dedicated employee who has worked at HBU since Oct. 7, 2013.
Gary Dyke, HBU Director of Maintenance and Operations, was selected as the male staff honoree for this year’s Mayfield Awards. He was described as a consistent, high performer who goes above and beyond the call of duty in his position. He wakes before 4:30 a.m. each morning to ensure that the plant is online and running properly to create the best possible educational and work environment for students, administrators, faculty and staff. Gary has been employed at HBU since Jan. 1, 2012.
