"A Celebration of Arts and Life" to honor Dr. Stewart Morris

HBU’s Department of Music joins forces with musicians from the Houston Symphony to present “A Celebration of Arts and Life” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, in Belin Chapel on the Houston Baptist University (HBU) Campus in honor of the 102nd birthday of HBU Founding Father, Dr. Stewart Morris.

The one-hour chamber music program will showcase well-known compositions of Beethoven, Dvorak, Shubert, Benedict, and Brahms and will feature Houston Symphony Principal Cello Brinton Smith, Acting Principal Viola Joan DerHovsepian, Associate Principal Bass Timothy Dilenschneider, the First Violins, Yan Tong and Chris Neal, Pianist Evelyn Chen and HBU Voice faculty member Summer Song.

Chair of HBU Music, Dr. David Kirkwood will welcome attendees followed by remarks from HBU President Dr. Robert B. Sloan. Attendees will join in singing “Happy Birthday” to Dr. Morris in honor of his milestone birthday.

Summer Song, HBU Voice Faculty, called it a blessing to be able to join forces with members of the Houston Symphony to celebrate Dr. Morris’ birthday and honor his life and many contributions to the University.

“We are blessed to have this wonderful opportunity to collaborate with the extraordinary musicians from the Houston Symphony to provide a high-level concert to our students and faculty,” said Song of the celebration in honor of HBU’s founding father.  She also hopes the music celebration will inspire more young talents to apply to HBU’s music program in the future.
