In the fall of 2019, the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society granted membership to Houston Baptist University’s chapter, Iota Epsilon. Through membership in this society, HBU will formally recognize and honor its top academic adult learners through induction into the chapter. Students invited to join this elite organization will not only be recognized during graduation ceremonies, but will also enjoy a lifetime membership in one of the nation’s most prestigious honor societies. Alpha Sigma Lambda promotes academic excellence and supports its members by awarding more than $45,000 in academic scholarships each year to help members finance their undergraduate degrees.
Qualifications for membership include the following:
- Candidates must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at HBU
- Candidates must have completed at least 30 credit hours at HBU, with 12 of those being part of the liberal arts core
- Candidates must be at least 25 years of age
- Candidates must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
HBU is proud to honor its outstanding adult learners and will send out invitations in February 2020 to its first group of potential members. An induction ceremony will follow in March 2020. Paulita Brooker, a chapter sponsor, said, “We’re very excited to make this opportunity available for our nontraditional students who juggle various life responsibilities and still excel academically. These students deserve and appreciate the recognition that comes with membership in Alpha Sigma Lambda.”
