This Week's Review: Holiday Preview

The weekend of October 27 was designed to help me save money, and I took full advantage. “Bad Times at the El Royale” just didn’t seem worth the time or money, even though Jeff Bridges always makes my ears perk up.

I am not too sure the weekend of November 3 will have much more to offer. I have been thoroughly repelled by the trailers for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. It may become part of that dreaded genre, “the Christmas classic.” Some of those “classics” have the aroma of turkeys that have been left in the oven far too long. My nominee for the worst of the flock has to be “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.” The floor is open for nominations.

One film I do want to see during the holidays is the latest in the “Fantastic Beasts” series. How can I ignore Jude Law as the young Dumbledore?

How did I console myself for the lack of theatrical fare? That’s easy to answer: I stuck my DVD of “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” into the player and rooted for the dinosaurs.
