Culture Influencers: Doni M. Wilson

Dr. Doni M. Wilson, professor of English in the School of Humanities, was part of a panel of Houston Theater Critics representing Houstonia Magazine that took place September17 at Stages Repertory Theater. She recently reviewed “The Book of Will” at Main Street Theater, “Skeleton Crew” at The Alley Theatre, and “Oklahoma!” at Theatre Under the Stars. Since 2014, Dr. Wilson has written over 100 pieces on theater, music, and books for multiple publications, including The Houston Chronicle. This summer she gave readings of her creative nonfiction at the Wildacres Writing Workshop in North Carolina, and was selected for a writing residency in August at A Studio in the Woods sponsored by Tulane University. She taught creative writing camp serving Houston students at Faith West Academy through Writers in the Schools, and in September co-led a writing workshop called “Processing Harvey through Writing” at Writespace. Her essay “Up the Mountains, Into the Woods” was published late spring for the Pisgah Review in a special issue along with writers Rick Bass and Ron Rash.
