The Houston Baptist University Archie W. Dunham College of Business is pleased to announce the creation of the HBU Robert Griswold Finance & Analytics Lab. It will be a space in which students can research complex financial concepts, explore advanced data analytics techniques and more. The lab will serve as a dynamic space in which industry experts and alumni may lecture and interact with students. Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2018, and the lab will be located on the first floor of the Hinton Center on the HBU campus. The lab is being provided through the generous donation of Dr. Robert Griswold, MBA ’79, also a former faculty member of HBU, along with additional gifts by Susan and Richard Redding, ’82, Chris Wallis, William Mearse and Prosperity Bank.
“The HBU Archie W. Dunham College of Business prepares graduates to be innovative leaders with strong Christian character,” Dr. Michael Weeks, dean of the Archie W. Dunham College of Business, said. “The Robert Griswold Finance & Analytics Lab will provide students with state-of-the-art tools that are similar to what they will encounter in the modern workplace. Additionally, the room will be designed for teamwork; it’ll be an environment in which students can apply what they learn in the classroom.”
Dr. Griswold graduated from HBU with an MBA degree in 1979 while working for Shell Oil Company. He later established his own consulting practice and completed a PhD in Finance in 2001. Dr. Griswold returned to HBU and served as an adjunct professor of Business for several years. Regarding his contribution, Dr. Griswold said, “My whole motivation is to follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ and to give back something to our community so the students and faculty can continue to grow into the 21st century. To me, HBU is the finest Christian university in the state of Texas; I think they have outstanding leadership and great faculty. I look for great things to continue to unfold.”
