HBU Receives 2018 Military Friendly School Gold Designation

Houston Baptist University received a 2018 Military Friendly® School Gold Designation by Victory Media, a veteran-owned rating and advocacy organization. The designation is awarded to educational institutions based upon financial aid offered and the services available to military service members, veterans and their family members. HBU was recognized for the first time as a 2017 Military Friendly School; however, the previous designation was Silver.

Ed Borges, HBU senior director of Special Projects, said that, in recent years, the University has greatly expanded its financial aid offerings to veterans, partnering with the Yellow Ribbon Program to provide broad tuition coverage. HBU Admissions also began granting veterans priority registration and early benefits certification. Additionally, the University helped establish the Husky Veterans Association and provided a permanent place for the organization on campus.

“We are proud to receive the distinction of being a Military Friendly Gold University. With the commitment that service members have made in serving our country, we take the responsibility of providing them the best possible education when they come back as a very important one,” Borges said. “Dr. Robert Sloan, HBU president, is committed to continually improving the ways in which we provide enhanced services and support mechanisms for service members.”
