Dr. Kari Savannah, Assistant Professor of Biology, was a presenter at the 2017 We Are Girls Houston Conference on Saturday, April 29th. The conference, organized by the Girls Empowerment Network, aims “to support and guide girls to make wise choices as they navigate the unique pressures of girlhood.” Dr. Savannah’s presentation entitled “We Are Girl Scientists” featured women scientists from several fields and encouraged girls to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields. Hands on experiments allowed the girls to use teamwork and a basic knowledge of biology to solve a murder mystery by isolating DNA.
