HBU Women’s Soccer wins Southland Conference Tournament championship!

The Women’s Soccer team captured its second Southland Conference Tournament championship in three years with a 1-0 shutout of Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, November 6, in Corpus Christi. With the win, the Lady Huskies received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Senior midfielder Allison Abendschein was named the Southland Conference tournament MVP, scoring the game-winning goal in the fourth minute against the Ladyjacks.

On Monday, November 7, the NCAA Selection Show announced the bracket of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament. The Lady Huskies played against the tournament’s #1 seed, Stanford University, at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium in Stanford, California, on Friday, November 11, which became their final game of the season with a Stanford win of 4-0. The Huskies represented Houston Baptist University well against a school more than four times the size of HBU.

Head coach Misty Jones stated, “I’m very proud of our girls. They fought from beginning to end, and they were not intimidated. We made Stanford earn the win. It was a great season, and we had a fantastic senior class. They won two championships and made two NCAA appearances. I look forward to a tough off-season and a repeat next year.” Read more about the Stanford/HBU game.
