Culture Influencers: Doni Wilson

Dr. Doni M. Wilson, professor of English in the School of Humanities, reviewed country superstar Phil Vassar’s concert, Stages Repertory Theatre’s “The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On,” and The Alley Theatre’s “A Night with Janis Joplin” in August all for Houstonia Magazine’s “On the TowDoni Wilsonn” cultural commentary site. In September, she reviewed Sam Shepard’s “True West” that played at the 4th Wall Theatre Company, and Theatre Under the Stars’ production of “In the Heights” for Houstonia Magazine. In addition, she reviewed multiple award winning Martina McBride’s concert for Houston Press, and The Houston Chronicle published her essay “This Intimate Artifact: Jonathan Safron Foer Reads ‘Here I Am'” in the prize-winning culture site “Gray Matters.” Her essay about her experiences in North Carolina called “Up the Mountain and Into the Woods,” will be published in Brevard College’s literary journal, “The Pisgah Review,” where it was selected as one of the top essays from The Looking Glass Mountain Conference held last May. In October, she will speak about her adventures with her column on the popular television show “Downton Abbey” for the HBU retirees association.
