Call for Papers – Christian Business Review

Next Issue Theme: “Integrating Faith and Business Strategy”

CBR invites Christian scholars and practitioners to submit articles for publication in our next issue. The deadline for a first complete draft with a maximum 200-word abstract is March 1, 2024.

The CBR serves to promote the integration of biblical truth into leadership practice by showcasing experiences, research, and original thinking by Christian scholars and practitioners. In the upcoming issue, we invite authors to ruminate on the theme of “Integrating Faith and Business Strategy.

The language of business strategy, which Michael Porter1 gave us a few decades ago, remain as relevant today as they were then. And yet we know that strategic considerations today are both more complex and non-linear than when Porter or his contemporary Richard D’Aveni2 delineated. When we simultaneously consider the impact of our Christian faith on modern strategic thinking – and the impact of such thinking on our Christian faith – we find ourselves in need of a conversation. As we approach the quarter point of the twenty-first century, business strategy considerations that incorporate a Christian or biblical worldview face new – and old – challenges, such as:

  • What is the ultimate purpose/goal/telos of business organizations and in what way(s) will a biblically informed mission shape corporate strategic vision?
  • What does value creation mean in light of the biblical “cultural mandate” in the context of the post-Christian world economy?
  • What will strategic leadership look like in the creation of a learning and ethical organization?
  • What are the biblical applications of business and corporate level strategies that sustain competitive advantage and value creation?
  • What are the challenges and opportunities for a God-glorifying economic reality when technology and sustainability strategies gain increasing influence in business decisions?
  • How do Christian employers harness rapidly changing cultural and social forces that influence organizational (governance, human resources, corporate entrepreneurship) strategies so that they can be faithful witnesses in such areas as productivity, diversity, innovation, sustainability, etc.?
  • What would be the unique considerations of a biblically informed strategic vision in such areas as corporate finance or marketing in the mid-21st Century?
  • Is there a Christian equivalent to the emerging ideas of “conscious capitalism” and the B-Corp approach to business?

Please submit your manuscript in accordance with the CBR publishers’ guidelines by emailing it to cbr@hbu.edu and/or eliang@hc.edu. Thank you for your interest.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
