|"Bert L. Long Jr.: An Odyssey," the newest exhibit in HBU's Contemporary Gallery, will open with a free reception on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 6-8 p.m. The majority of the mixed media assemblages and paintings on exhibit were selected by the artist prior to his death on Feb. 1, and have never been exhibited in Houston previously.
Bert Long was a resident of Houston’s Fifth Ward. His diverse and heralded career included time spent living in Spain and Italy, where he was awarded the Rome Prize Fellowship in 1990-91. His work is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
The exhibit will remain on display through Thursday, April 18. The Contemporary Gallery is free and open to the public from Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
