Letter from Gala Chairs

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we are serving as Chairs of the Houston Baptist University 2012 Spirit of Excellence Gala to be held on November 1, 2012 at the Hilton Americas Hotel. This gala serves as a major fundraising opportunity for HBU, with funds raised from the event being dedicated to Nursing Excellence in HBU’s School of Nursing and Allied Health.

HBU’s nursing program has a long history of producing outstanding nurses for our community. All of HBU’s 2010-2011 nursing graduates passed the RN licensure exam, a mark of distinction for nursing programs. Also, this class exceeded in number the 2009-2010 class by 25 percent. We expect similar increases in the number of graduates, as well as continued success on the licensure exam, in future years. To help position the School of Nursing and Allied Health for this growth, we completed a renovation and expansion of the Mary Ann Belin School of Nursing and Allied Health Simulation Lab in 2011.

In keeping with the University’s history of bringing internationally recognized speakers to Houston for the Spirit of Excellence Gala, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Charles Krauthammer, Pulitzer-Prize winning syndicated columnist, will deliver the evening’s keynote address.

The Spirit of Excellence Award is the highest tribute given by HBU. Honorees are selected based on their exemplary commitment to promoting excellence in their personal lives and throughout the community. This year, the Spirit of Excellence Awards will be presented to Dr. Diane and Stanley Williams for their long-standing, generous spirit of providing support and service to the University and AT&T for their consistent support of HBU. Additionally, we are proud to present the President’s Lifetime Volunteer Award to Dr. Allene Lucas in recognition of her years of service to the University, including the HBU Board of Trustees, The Guild, and the American Museum Society.

We hope you will join us in celebrating the Spirit of Excellence exemplified by these worthy honorees. We have included a list of sponsorship opportunities for your consideration. Simply complete the attached form and fax it back to us at (281) 649-3474 by August 31, 2012 to be listed in the gala invitation. Should you have any questions, please call (281) 649-3413.

It is because of the 50 years of leadership and support from individuals like you that HBU students and graduates have been inspired to lead meaningful lives of leadership, distinction and service in our community.

Sincerely,
Sherry and Jim Smith 2012 Gala Chairs
