Living Learning Communities
Living Learning Communities (LLC) at Houston Baptist University exist to link students together based on a particular academic or co-curricular interest. As such, LLC residents will experience increased interaction with faculty and staff and live in an environment that supports their academic pursuits, and develop relationships with other LLC residents.
What is a Living Learning Community?
Living Learning Communities are simple room assignment structures that facilitate student interaction around academic work (and co-curricular interests). A living learning community brings together students with a common interest into a shared residential space.
What are the benefits of participating in a Living Learning Community?
Living in community allows for stronger correlation between what you learn in the classroom and what you experience in your living environment. The National Study of Living Learning Programs has found that students participating in living learning communities “experience a smooth transition into their new environment”, “build, maintain, and utilize healthy social networks”, “build relationships with faculty members”, “are more committed to issues related to civic engagement”, and they “find their residence halls to be academically and socially supportive”. Hopefully the LLC will improve the undergraduate experience for participating students.
