Teaching Focus

Dr. Bermejo’s teaching focus is on helping students acquire proficiency in Spanish and an understanding of the Spanish Culture. Her areas of interest include the study of Spanish for Heritage Learners, second language acquisition, and cross-cultural studies.

Additional Information

Her writing interests include: studies on second language acquisition and Heritage Learners. Dr. Bermejo recently delivered two papers at different professional conferences on the designing and developing of a placement test for Heritage Learners. She has developed and implemented a Spanish Placement for learners of Spanish as a Second Language. She has presented and published on a variety of topics from heritage learners, applied linguistics, testing and second language acquisition.

She has received a Teaching Fellowship from the University of Houston (2002) and a Graduate Research Award from the University of Houston (2004).

Dr. Bermejo sponsors the HBU International Students Association; the purpose of ISA is to promote an interest of the different cultures represented on the HBU campus.

Dr. Bermejo has also taught at the University of Houston, Sam Houston State University and Houston Community College.
