Teaching Focus

Dr. Hughes' teaching focus is on quality teacher education with a specialization in secondary grades as well as in all areas of field experience in teacher education.

Additional Information

Dr. Eloise Hughes has been involved in research concerning the improvement of teacher education programs, as well as the effect of school uniforms on student behavior. Dr. Hughes is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, a national honor society in education, and has served as president of the local Pi Eta chapter. She has made presentations at numerous state-wide education conferences, as well as the past four national convocations of Kappa Delta Pi.

A member of the education faculty since 1996, Dr. Hughes works with all HBU student teachers and is a member of the Institutional Research, Admissions, and Teacher Education committees on campus.

Dr. Hughes is currently the president of Texas Directors of Field Experience and treasurer of the board of directors of the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education. She has been named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers on four occasions, most recently for 2005.
