She completed postdoctoral work at University of California, San Francisco in Molecular Biology and at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Oakland, California, in Developmental Biology, Physiology and Enzymology.

Dr. Thompson's areas of interest are ecology and field biology studies using analytical techniques and bioassays. Her research interests are in water pollution and soil bacteria.
Dr. Thompson is a co-sponsor of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society and the Biology Club with Dr. Hannah Wingate and Dr. Nicole Pinare.
Dr. Thompson is the chair of the Recycling Task Force.
Dr. Thompson was Adviser of the Year, 2002-2003.
Dr. Thompson owns two farms that produce hay and trees.
Dr. Thompson enjoys gardening, cooking, and creating art projects.
