Our students are taught to be knowledgeable and active citizens, well-prepared for a wide variety of career fields. The body of knowledge that you will learn from is built upon the rich foundational preparation you will receive in our Liberal Arts Core of courses.

  • The Government program has created a field of study (major or minor) that enables students to understand current events, analyze politics, and discuss social dilemmas from an advanced perspective.  The curriculum is designed to prepare students for law school, public service, or careers in business.

  • Studying Sociology will help you to understand fundamental questions about living a shared life - what brings us together and tears us apart. It is a scientific discipline that studies human social behavior from casual and short interactions on the street to all-encompassing institutions like the economy.

  • The Speech Communication major is an introduction to the theory, practice, and critique of communication and rhetoric.  Whatever special expertise or talents a citizen may have, the ability to speak and write effectively in public, drawing upon a broad range of perspectives and sources of information, remains fundamental to one’s success, not only professionally, but as a citizen.  In our increasingly complex and technologically sophisticated world, the ability to analyze problems from a variety of perspectives, and to inform, persuade, and motivate others through public speaking and writing, is more important than ever.

We have designed coursework and learning experiences in each discipline that will teach you a variety of important skills and practices.
