Position Summary:

Houston Baptist University seeks a full-time faculty member to join the Department of English and Modern Languages

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach core classes, including our required composition and literature courses
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Participate in departmental, school, and university functions, including curriculum planning, assessment, and official and social functions


Applicants should have a M.A. or Ph.D. in English Literature or Composition and Rhetoric. Successful candidates will possess the ability to teach courses in literature and composition from a Christian worldview and will demonstrate enthusiasm for our classical liberal arts core curriculum.  The ideal candidate will be dedicated to teaching and mentoring students and will have a specialization in Composition & Rhetoric. Those with specializations in 18th-century British literature or the novel will also be considered.
