Mr. Jack D. Carlson was elected by the Board of Trustees to serve as interim president of Houston Baptist University effective August 1, 2006. He served the University in this position until Dr. Robert B. Sloan, Jr., took office on September 1, 2006.

Mr. Carlson served as a trustee of the University for more than 11 years. After fulfilling his tenure as interim president, he began his service as chairman of the Board of Trustees in November of 2006. Mr. Carlson served on many of the Board’s standing committees and chaired the Finance Committee. He also chaired the University’s building committees for three major campus facilities: the Hinton Center, the Eula Mae Baugh Student Center and the West Wing of the Rebecca Bates Philips Residence College for Women.

Mr. Carlson retired from SYSCO Corporation after a career spanning 36 years. He served as an officer of SYSCO for 29 years, most recently as vice president of real estate and construction.

A native of Pampa, Texas, Mr. Carlson graduated from Texas Tech University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He has held memberships in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and CoreNet Global.

Mr. Carlson and his wife, Karen, have two children and six grandchildren.
