Dr. Stacey’s teaching focus is on the nexus of political thought, practice, and culture. His areas of specialization are political theory and American government.

Dr. Robert D. Stacey is Interim Provost and Dean of the Honors College at Houston Baptist University. He teaches courses in Presidential Studies, National Security, Intelligence and Counterterrorism, and Political Theory. His current research focuses on the inherent tension between liberty and security and how these two vital interests can be balanced in an age of modern terrorism. His previous publications include Sir William Blackstone and Common Law, in addition to a host of articles and reviews on topics ranging from intelligence oversight to presidential elections.
Dr. Stacey has made numerous media appearances in a variety of settings. He has been quoted in front page stories appearing in the New York Times, Washington Post, Washington Times, and Virginian Pilot, as well as numerous local, regional, national and foreign publications including The New Yorker and Atlantic Monthly. Dr. Stacey has done live (both in studio and on location) and taped television interviews and segments for a variety of outlets including CNN’s Inside Politics and the Paula Zahn Show, CBN’s Newswatch and local CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, and FOX affiliates in Washington, DC, Houston, Virginia Beach, and Chattanooga. Finally, Dr. Stacey has done live and taped radio interviews for various local stations, syndicated programs, American Family Radio, and the BBC.
Prior to joining the HBU community, Dr. Stacey served as Associate Professor in Regent University’s Robertson School of Government and as founding Chairman of the Department of Government at Patrick Henry College where he taught the college’s flagship course, Freedom’s Foundations.
Dr. Stacey took his B.A. (cum laude) in Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania in 1991 and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Government at the University of Virginia, completed in 1998.
