Charles Bacarisse
Vice President for Advancement
Charles Bacarisse is the Vice President for Advancement at Houston Baptist University, where he oversees Alumni Affairs, Church and Community Relations, and Development.
Since coming to HBU in June 2008, Bacarisse has led a top-to-bottom reorganization of the Office of Advancement, focused on individual donor engagement, credited with connecting thousands of new donors to the University and a steady rise in financial support.
Bacarisse brings an understanding of the public sector and an extensive background in government service and communications to a role specifically focused on building relationships and sharing the HBU vision with stakeholders at the local, state, and national level.
Bacarisse previously served four consecutive terms as Harris County District Clerk. In that role, he transformed the fourth-largest county agency by focusing on innovation, efficiency, ethics, and results. Bacarisse also raised millions in private and foundation dollars for a historic court documents preservation project.
He was introduced to the challenges and rewards of public service while working in the White House as the Associate Director of President Reagan’s Office of Media Relations and the Assistant Director of the Office of Public Liaison for President George H.W. Bush. He entered local public service as an Administrative Assistant to Harris County Judge Jon Lindsay, working on economic development and criminal justice issues.
Bacarisse holds a bachelor of arts in political science and a bachelor of fine arts in communications from Southern Methodist University. He and his wife, Jana Fay, have two children and are active in their church.
