Houston Baptist University Announces Naming of Sadie & Doug Hodo Residence College
March 27, 2014
Houston Baptist University President Robert B. Sloan, Jr. is pleased to announce the naming of the Sadie and Doug Hodo Residence College, currently known as the Lake House. The naming will recognize Dr. Doug Hodo, president emeritus, and Sadie Hodo, former first lady. Dr. Hodo served as the second president of the University from 1987 to 2006.
"Naming the Sadie and Doug Hodo Residence College is a fitting tribute to Sadie and Doug Hodo,” said President Sloan. It will serve to recognize their commitment to Christian higher education, their dedication to HBU, and their love for students." The residence college serves as a home for both women and men.
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the naming at its quarterly meeting on February 18. Board Chairman and HBU alumnus Dr. Mark Denison remarked, “HBU would not be the incredible university she is today apart from the visionary leadership of two of my dearest friends, Doug and Sadie Hodo. Through the 19 years of their service to the University I was privileged to serve in leadership positions of the Alumni Association and Board of Trustees, affording me a unique perspective as Dr. Hodo led us to unprecedented growth and stability. Sadie served with grace and distinction. They keep Christ at the center of their lives, and they kept Christ at the center of HBU.”
Dr. Hodo said he and Sadie are “truly honored and humbled” by the honor and added, “To God be the glory and honor and praise!”
University friends are invited to join trustees, faculty, staff, and students at a dedication on Monday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m. on campus in front of the residence college that will soon bear the Hodo name. A reception will follow. For more information, contact the HBU Office of Events at (281) 649-3047 or HodoRSVP@hbu.edu.
